History of the name and the symbol
The first advertisement campaign of Positivo was developed by the agency Lema Propaganda.
The name Positivo was created and proposed by the Biology teacher Samuel Ramos Lago, who is a partner until today: when he suggested the name, he signaled with thumbs up as the sign for “positive” to create the trademark. Thus, the thumbs up trademark was born. The final trace was given by the publicist now plastic artist from Paraná state Luis Carlos Retamozzo.
The Curso Positivo is born
A group of passionate young teachers decided to gather efforts toward the same goal: to create a different college entrance examinations course that would follow the students right until the days before the college entrance examinations day – something new in the education of Brazil. This is how the Curso Positivo was born. By renting an office downtown and offering classes for free to the students taking the exam, the teachers called the attention of the market and revolutionized this segment. Along the first year of work, the course won over more than 2,300 students. In the second year, another novelty: the use of TV programming in the content review classes and to solve exercises with the students. This was the start of Positivo, marked by creativity, innovation and a comprehensive understanding of the needs of the students.
Publishing activity: a means for innovation
The history of Posigraf begins with the history of Curso Positivo for the production of didactic material with the necessary quality and speed. Thus, the educational undertaking of the Grupo Positivo starts its own publishing house, located at a small garage in the neighborhood of Cristo Rei in Curitiba. The teachers themselves worked in binding, while the drawers shared a plate to do the final art in two colors, which made the material more visually attractive at the time. The teachers wrote and edited the didactic material, giving way to Editora Positivo.
The experience with the students taking college entrance examinations led the teachers to notice that some of the different aspects of their methods could be applied to another educational segment. This was the opportunity to create a high school with the purpose to further the knowledge and get an early start for the content to be included in the college entrance examination. The success of Curso Positivo reinforced the creation of Colégio Positivo that is located since 1976 at Ângelo Sampaio street in Curitiba.
The daily experience with the students such as the experience acquired with years devoted to teaching led the teachers of Positivo to dream with a transformative action in education since the first years of school life. This proposal created the Colégio Positivo Júnior at the street Marcelino Champagnat in Curitiba. This school currently houses students since child education until the 9th year of elementary school. It also offers full-time bilingual teaching.
The Positivo Teaching System
In a few years, the teaching methodology and the didactic material used in the Colégio Positivo won over the teachers, parents and students. Always with a current and dynamic approach, with emphasis on knowledge, the reflection and practical application of the contents in the daily life of the students, the Positivo Teaching System was created that, in addition to the institution, won space in other cities of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, giving way to the activities of the Positivo Distribution Company – current Editora Positivo, which started to cover the schools in the entire southern region of Brazil. In that time the Positivo Teaching System became part of the life of more than 15 thousand students.
Experience in schools outside Curitiba
At the start of the 1980s, Positivo had its first international experience as a partner of the Camargo Correa Construction Company: it was the administrator of the school Usina de Gúri, in Venezuela. Teachers of Colégio Positivo brought all their experience to teach the children of Brazilian nationals who worked at the hydroelectric powerplant in that country.
Positivo was also active with educational services in constructions of hydroelectric power plants and other Brazilian projects. It managed schools in the hydroelectric powerplants of Salto Osório, Salto Santiago and Guaíra, in the state of Paraná, at Itá, in the state of Santa Catarina, at the Mill of Porto Primavera, in São Paulo, and in the Jari and Cadam Projects, both in the state of Pará, in the Amazon.
The Positivo Experience in the Paper Industry
Also in the paper industry of Brazil, Positivo offered its contribution taking quality teaching to the children of workers since the 1980s. That is how the schools in the cities of Arapoti (Inpacel), Jaguariaíva (Pisa) and Telêmaco Borba (Klabin) started, all in the Paraná state. These three industries still keep the schools under the name Positivo and use our teaching system.
Positivo in Londrina and Ponta Grossa
In the 1980s, Positivo was also present as Colégio Positivo in the countryside of the state of Paraná. In Londrina, Positivo purchased the former Colégio Mário de Andrade school, and in the city of Ponta Grossa, the Colégio Positivo worked for several years. Positivo has its schools only in Curitiba today.
New Posigraf Headquarters/Unit
Starting on the 1980s, the educational area of the Grupo Positivo grew rapidly. In 1985, Posigraf produced more than 290 thousand didactic books that were distributed to the network of collaborating schools and reached approximately 77 thousand students. To meet the new reality, the publishing house had to invest in new facilities. Posigraf has three previous headquarters: the first, in a small garage in Schiller street. The second, in the street Fernando Moreira, and the third, in Avenida Winston Churchill. When transferring from the neighborhood Pinheirinho to the industrial area of Curitiba, Posigraf started to count with an area of 5 thousand square meters built in a total area of 20 thousand square meters.
First Printing Machine
In 1987, only one year after the installation in the industrial zone of Curitiba, Posigraf produced didactic material for 100 thousand Brazilian students. The leap in production reflected the growing adherence of the schools to the Positive Teaching System. The favorable scenario brought new business opportunities to Posigraf, that with the purchase of the first web press, the News King, started a new phase, with outside clients. The end of the decade is also marked by investment in final art and editing, one of the differentials of Posigraf to this day.
After 16 years dedicated to elementary school, high school, and college entrance examination preparation courses, and with a consolidated educational program, the Grupo Positivo extended its action to higher education. Thus, the Faculdades Positivo were born, which, initially occupied an area of 4,500 square meters in the neighborhood Seminário, in Curitiba. The facilities went on to cover courses that met important segments of the market such as Foreign Trade, Computer Science, Pedagogy, Rural Management and Business Administration.
In 1989, the Brazilian market was still totally closed to imports. On the other hand, the national production of computer equipment, despite growing, could not meet the demand and depended greatly on foreign technology.
A closer look at this reality identified a new business opportunity.
It was in the computer science course in the Universidade Positivo that came the idea for a microcomputer assembly project to meet the demands of the educational market. This idea gave origin to Positivo Informática, which, in the beginning, worked inside the university, and then moved to Avenida Vicente Machado, in Curitiba. The company started to produce computers to the schools of the Grupo Positivo, in the capital of Paraná, and also to the partner schools in the whole country.
200 thousand students
In four years, the Positivo Teaching System doubled the number of students, in 1991 there were already 200 thousand students studying by the PTS in hundreds of partner schools scattered throughout Brazil.
By allying the manufacture of computers to the experience of the group in the educational area, Positivo Informática started to act in the Educational Technology market, offering innovative solutions that enrich the teaching-learning process and transform the classroom in a stimulating and challenging environment to the students.
Started by the development of educational softwares and rapidly offering state-of-the-art solutions, with the Portals and Educational Tables. Solutions that are present in more than 10.8 thousand teaching institutions in all Brazil and are exported to more than 40 countries.
The Growth of Posigraf
In 1995, for the first time, the company is the leader of the Associação Brasileira da Indústria Gráfica (Abigraf) in the promotional and printing segment, a post that it maintains to this day. The purchase of the second web press marked the start of prospecting new clients. Posigraf started, then, to act commercially, meeting new markets, in addition to the demands of the Grupo Positivo.
The Curso Positivo has new headquarters
In order to better meet the students, a new headquarters was built for the Curso Positivo in the Avenida Sete de Setembro, in Curitiba. The Pré-Vestibular course is currently in two units: the traditional headquarters at Av. Vicente Machado and the headquarters at Batel. The artist Poty Lazzarotto is the author of the 21 meter panel that decorates the hall of the new headquarters.
300 thousand students
In 1996, the Positivo Teaching System reached 300 thousand students between the units of the group and the schools that use the system that grows rapidly across the country. The year also marked the start of the segment currently known as “Books and Periodicals”, focused at the time on the participation of the PNLD. The Nova Didática publishing house was then created, but its name would be extinct later on. The structure was kept and it was named Editora Positivo.
Positivo in Japan
Based on a merchandise action of the Positivo Teaching System in the Brazilian Soap Opera “Rei do Gado”, a phenomenal success from Rede Globo, in 1996, Positivo was remembered and recognized by Brazilians who lived in Japan to work. The soap opera was followed by the workers by means of “Globo Internacional”, as well as by parabolic antennas.
In the following year, the Positivo Teaching System reached the Asian country. Japanese schools that had as students the children of Brazilian expats who worked there, called the dekassegui, adopted the didactic material and therefore became partner schools. Until today, thousands of Brazilian children who live in that country study with Positivo didactic material.
In 1996, The Educational Technology Division of Positivo Informática launched the first version of the Educational Table, that makes the teaching-learning process more interactive, playful and interesting. Aimed at students of several age groups – and also to special needs students and to the education of teens and adults – it uses technology applied to education in a multisensory way, associating hardware, software and concrete material for an interactive, collaborative and interesting work with the students.
In the last years, Positivo Informática launched new models of Educational Tables, the Alphabet and the Discovery World, both with augmented reality technology, English E-Blocks, Spanish E-Blocks and Math E-Blocks.
With patents in Brazil and abroad, the Educational Tables are present in thousands of public and private teaching institutions and already won several national and international awards.
Posigraf wins over ISO 9001
Focusing on the quality of its products and services, Posigraf won, in 1997, the ISO 9001 certification in all phases of the publishing process. Also in that year, Posigraf made a big investment and extended its publishing plant, which led the company to lead the Brazilian market in the book, magazines and commercial and promotional printing segments.
Centro Universitário Positivo
Only 10 years after the creation of its first university course, the Grupo Positivo had an important achievement: a decree signed by the former president of Brazil Fernando Henrique Cardoso turned the Faculdades Positivo into the Centro Universitário Positivo, UnicenP. With 18 undergraduate courses, the new university center still earned the trust and respect of the community due to the excellence in teaching.
Centro de Línguas Positivo
Innovating once again, Positivo inaugurated the Centro de Línguas Positivo, a language school for English and Spanish. Created to meet the needs of the students of Positivo, it received its own structure together with the Colégio Positivo Júnior, in addition to its exclusive methodology. Their audiovisual equipment has with the most advanced multimedia technology.
In 2011, the Centro de Línguas Positivo received the approval of the Cambridge University, one of the oldest and most prestige teaching institutions in the UK, as a center that is authorized to have international examinations.
The most important point of contribution in this experience is that today the English language is included in the school syllabus, a great symbol of quality and modernity for the Positivo teaching method.
Colégio Positivo - Jardim Ambiental
With an advertisement campaign starred by the actress Fernanda Montenegro, another headquarters of the Colégio Positivo was opened in Curitiba, at Rua Itupava, in bairro Alto da XV. The Colégio Positivo – Jardim Ambiental tends to basic education, elementary and middle schools, and also high school students, in a modern environment, with comfort, extended facilities are with beautiful green areas. Translating the facilities into the quality of teaching offered.
Electronic version of the Didactic Material
The growing importance of the computer in the daily lives of people, especially children and teenagers, led Positivo to invest in the electronic version of its didactic material. This way, the didactic books started to come with interactive CD-ROMs.
Opening of university campus
The acquisition of an area in a former stud farm at the neighborhood of Campo Comprido, close to the industrial area of Curitiba, brought great enthusiasm to Positivo. The Project there to build an university campus held to higher standard of quality desired for the future University. Partners, directors and teachers went over all the area of more than 410 thousand square meters to imagine the Project for the new university.
The new millennium marked the transfer of Centro Universitário Positivo (UnicenP) to the new campus. The 17 colleges that made up UnicenP occupied the new buildings with modern classrooms, auditoriums, food courts, labs and a sports structure that has athletic tracks, soccer field, covered courts and an olympic pool, among other equipment. The campus also has wide parking lots, running tracks, two theaters, 6 amphitheaters, an ecumenical temple, a conference center, and specially designed gardens, in addition to a vast and beautiful lake.
All this careful infrastructure was planned to offer the best teaching conditions, in addition to being a model of space to exercise the citizenship. The initiative gained wide acknowledgement of the community that culminated with the mention of the Positivo University campus as one of the “125 reasons to love Curitiba” in a special publication of the magazine Veja, in March 2011, to celebrate the 318 years of the city.
The Educational Technology Division of Positivo Informática launched the Educational Portals to use all the potential of internet on Education. Collaborative learning, multimedia resources, literary works, encyclopedias, production, communications and management tools, are a few examples of the numerous resources offered by the Portals.
Present in private and public schools and in higher education institutions all over the country, they have the largest and most reliable educational content in Portuguese.
500 thousand students
By completing 30 years of existence, Positivo reaches 500 thousand students in the Positivo Teaching System. This figure comes from more school partners in all regions of Brazil.
The largest publishing house of Brazil
Constant investment in Posigraf in new technologies and the extension of the publishing house led to the growth of production capacity in 200%. As a result, the company was nominated as the largest publishing house of Brazil by Abigraf – in the segment of books, magazines and journals – for seven consecutive years. In addition, it received several regional and national awards in view of the quality of the printing materials, such as: the Prêmio Paranaense de Excelência Gráfica Oscar Schrappe Sobrinho, in several editions, and the Troféu Fernando Pini, the most important of the national publishing segment. Posigraf was also the only Brazilian publishing house awarded with Gold Ink Awards, the most prestigious competition of the sector in the categories Calendars (Calendários) and Fine Books (Livros).
Environmental management became as important in focus as the quality of products and services. Posigraf was the first printing press in Brazil to obtain the ISO 14001 certification that attests to the implantation of the environmental management system for the continuous improvement and the monitoring and reduction of impact as a result of the activity, including recycling. It also won the FSC certification, an English acronym that means Forest Stewardship Council, of the Forest Management Counsel that attests in a worldly scope the origin and correct management of the raw materials of the suppliers. It was also the first Brazilian printing house to win the ISO 14064, which is the international validation of the inventory of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GEE), allowing the company to negotiate carbon credits with companies that wish to compensate for environmental aggressions. All these actions reveal not only the constant search for excellence but the permanent commitment of Posigraf with environmental conservation.
Biblioteca da Universidade Positivo
One of the most beautiful and modern of Brazil, the Biblioteca da Universidade Positivo was opened in August 2002. It is 6,300 square meters long and it is able to hold 864 users simultaneously. It holds thousands of books, theses, dissertations, papers, final graduation projects, technical standards, journals and specific standards.
Inside the library, the room Roberto Campos holds the personal collection of books, journals and honors that belonged to the Brazilian economist and diplomat, and it is composed by 8,426 volumes. In addition to the vast space for the collection and classification of works, the library also has study rooms and individual booths.
In December, by means of Posigraf, Grupo Positivo won the licensing to edit, distribute and sell the dictionary Aurélio, one of the most traditional and important dictionaries of Brazil and one of the main dictionaries of Portuguese. With tens of thousands of entries carefully researched and documented by Aurélio Buarque de Holanda Ferreira along many years, this work is a fundamental landmark in the cultural and educational creation of the Brazilian nation.
Adoption of Mata do Uru
In an unprecedented initiative in the country, Posigraf was the first company in the printing industry to adopt an area of Forest to guarantee its preservation. The solution – simple, creative and non-bureaucratic – brought together the owner of the area Gabriel Campanholo, who fought alone for its preservation, and Posigraf, which guaranteed the financial resources for its preservation. The first contract, signed in 2003, has been periodically renewed, which has enabled the preservation of 131 hectares of Mata do Uru, with its many species of plants and animals. Located at the city of Lapa, the property is a valuable remnant of the Forest with Araucária tree that, despite having covered a third of the southern region of the country and 40% of the area of Paraná state, is found gravely threatened with extinction, with less than 1% of preserved areas.
This way, Posigraf launched the Araucária Tree Forest Adoption Campaign, coordinated by the Society for Wildlife Research and Environmental Education (SPVS). The Project was converted later into the Programa de Desmatamento Evitado (Avoided Deforestation Program), which has already helped save from destruction more than 3,000 hectares of forests in the south of Brazil. In addition to protecting an area that is rich in biodiversity located in of the most threatened ecosystems of Brazil, the Grupo Positivo, by means of Posigraf, started to develop local educational and research projects. Soon after the adoption of Mata do Uru was confirmed, Gabriel Campanholo passed away. Months later, the transformation of Mata do Uru into a Private Natural Heritage Reserve (RPPN) was approved, a legal action that guarantees its permanent preservation.
The success of the Positivo Teaching System and the launching of new didactic materials paved the way to the Editora Positivo. Still in 2004, the electronic version of the Aurélio dictionary was launched, in partnership with Positivo Informática, meeting the growing interest of the consumers to search the book by means of the computers.
Positivo Informática went into the retail market by selling its computers in the big Brazilian networks of the business, and at the end of 2004, the company was already a leader in the business. In the following year, sales to corporations began and they were reinforced in 2008 with the creation of a business unit specifically to meet the demands of the companies.
In 2010, the company won the Top of Mind award in the notebook category, in addition to having been elected the most remembered trademark by the Brazilians in the southern region of the country. In 2011, the company consolidated the Brazilian leadership in the computer market, accumulating the production of over 9 million PCs in its history.
Positivo Informática in BM&Bovespa
In 2006, Positivo Informática opened its capital by trading shares of the company at BM&Bovespa. With a bold strategy, the company became the largest manufacturer of computers in Brazil, also a leader in the educational technology segment. The educational solutions are currently present in approximately 8.5 thousand public schools and 2.3 thousand private schools. The products of Positivo Informática are sold in more than 8.8 thousand retail outlets. In all, approximately 4.3 thousand people work at Positivo Informática.
Aprende Brasil Teaching System
The Positivo commitment with the quality of teaching and the improvement of education in our country is implicit in all its work along its history. After the success of the Positivo Teaching System, which was taken to thousands of private schools in 2006, the Group innovated by presenting a System for public schools.
The quality of the didactic material and the experience of the proposal submitted made more than 84 thousand students in the first year to adopt the Aprende Brasil Teaching System in several cities and states of the country.
This system now reaches the most distant places, from the North to the south of Brazil, and its use has been growing year after year in the Brazilian cities that acknowledge its unquestionable quality.
The efficacy of the System is measured by the impact on IDEB (Basic Education Development Index) that improved year after year in all the cities that use it. A fact that makes Positivo feel proud and rewarded by the contribution that it makes in the Brazilian education.
Posigraf doubles production
This year, POSIGRAF made a great investment with the acquisition of four new web presses, offering even more support to its agility and technical capacity. With these acquisitions, its printing plant doubled the capacity to produce and print.
When Grupo Positivo completed 36 years of existence, with education as the primary focus, the group saw their efforts paid off, along with their firmness of purpose, their institutional values, and their corporate coherence, as the Centro Universitário Positivo was accredited as the Universidade Positivo by the Ministry of Education. In the extraordinary trajectory between the first college entrance examination course until the accreditation of the university, the Grupo Positivo was firm in the search for excellence and human development. The Universidade Positivo currently has 27 Bachelor’s Degree and Teaching Credential Qualification, 2 Doctoral Degrees, 4 Master’s Degree programs, dozens of Specialization programs and MBAs and hundreds of Extension programs, in addition to 20 Associate’s Degrees, which are also taught at two other units: Ângelo Sampaio street and CIC, next to Posigraf.
Positivo Informática in Manaus and Ilhéus
The accelerated growth process of Positivo Informática led the company to open two new units: one in Manaus, in the state of Amazonas, which makes computers, and another in Ilhéus, in the state of Bahia, which manufactures screens and PCs.
Teatro Positivo and Conference Center
With 2,400 seats, the Teatro Positivo is among the largest venues of the country dedicated to of shows and the performing arts. Inspired by the Epidaurus – a Greek amphitheater from IV B.C. – it has a circular format, which decreases the distance between the audience and the stage, creating ample visibility anywhere in the auditorium. Inaugurated on March 29th 2008, as a celebration on the birthday of Curitiba, it had the Spanish tenor José Carreras.
Since then, nationally acclaimed artists such as Roberto Carlos and Caetano Veloso, and international starts like Joss Stone and Charles Aznavour, have stepped on the stage of Teatro Positivo, dazzling thousands of people and fulfilling its purpose to develop sensitivity and the culture of the youth now and forever.
The Conference Center, also located on campus, covers more than 11 thousand square meters. Only at the year it was opened, the theater was visited by 195,816 people and the conference Center had 145,874 visitors. From then until this day, the public that showed up at both spaces already amounts to 2 million visitors, which is proof of the success of the project.
Centro Tecnológico Positivo
Tied with the Universidade Positivo, an excellence center was created to educate and develop professionals with associate degrees in several different areas. The Centro Tecnológico Positivo has its headquarters in the Batel campus, where most courses in the business area are located. With an unique infrastructure, it has an environment that enhances the learning process. The campus also has an excellent food court, modern labs, a library, a gymnasium and a big auditorium.
Extension of Posigraf
Posigraf opened a modern Logistics Distribution Center, with new equipment, and modernized their technology systems with a 40% increase in production capacity. It is still investing in social responsibility, eliminating 99,8% of pollutants produced by the web presses and recycled in 2010 alone more than 10 thousand tons of paper from the discharged machine chips.
A Winning History in Education
When the Positivo Informática team reached the city of José de Freitas, one of the poorest and most deprived of the country, in the countryside of the state of Piauí, the Basic Education Development Index (Ideb) ranked the city education as one of the lowest in the country. The great challenge of the project Learning with Technology was to revert this trend. In order to put it to practice, studies were made to show the reality and the needs of the schools of the city. The next phase was to establish educational technology solutions in 11 schools of the city and the state.
The results of the project came quickly: in one year, the state schools went from a 3.3 place in the Ideb rank in 2007 to 4.4 in 2009, reaching in advance the goal set for 2017 and showing that it is possible to change the reality of education by using technological solutions, quality content and teacher education. Positivo donated the equipment and the technology, and felt great pride with the results achieved with this extremely impoverished community.
Special Edition of the Dictionary Aurélio
In celebration of the 100 years of the birth of Aurélio Buarque de Holanda Ferreira, author of dictionary Aurélio, Editora Positivo launched a special edition of the book (in golden and silver series).
Born in Passo de Camaragibe, in the Brazilian state of Alagoas, in 1910, Aurélio Buarque de Holanda Ferreira was a brilliant intellectual. He worked as a Portuguese and Literature teacher, critic, essayist, translator, philologist, and lexicographer. Passionate about the Portuguese language, he devoted many years of his life to marking the dictionary that was first published in 1975.
Since then, the most famous dictionary of Brazil became popularly known as “Aurélio” or “Aurelião”, making its creator, who passed away in 1989, eternally famous. Editora Positivo keeps close ties with the family of Aurélio Buarque de Holanda and knows of the responsibility to edit, help update and extend the most important work of reference in the Portuguese language.
Internationalization of Positivo Informática
An alliance with BGH, a company that plays an important role in the consumption segment of Argentina, determined the internationalization of Positivo Informática. The union of both companies created Informática Fueguina S.A. This initiative is typical of the entrepreneurial character of Grupo Positivo and, in particular, Positivo Informática, which has shown remarkable growth since 2004.
Brazil watches classes from the teachers of Curso Positivo
A partnership between Editora Positivo and the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo brought about another innovation of the Positivo course to the students who are about to take the college entrance examinations in all Brazil. Fifty one classes on video provide a review of the main content of the college entrance examinations and of the National High School Exam (Enem) in Portuguese, English, Spanish, Geography, History, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Math. Developed by 26 teachers of the Positivo course, the “Super Aulas Estadão Positivo” (Estadão Positivo Super Classes) were made available for free. Along 15 days, the classes had more than three million views from students all over the country. The initiative united the Curso Positivo, the Editora Positivo and the Educational Technology area of Positivo Informática, showing the integration and synergy among the units of Grupo Positivo.
In 2011, Editora Positivo launched the collection Projeto Eco, which was created based on a multidisciplinary learning proposal devoted to elementary school students. In addition to the didactic books in Portuguese, Math, Science, History, Geography and English, the collection brings the Aurélio Minidictionary and paradidactic books of Philosophy and the Arts.
Hábile Evaluation System
Created by Editora Positivo, Hábile is the Positivo Evaluation System. The new pedagogical service allows the school to have a general overview of the activities developed and of the teaching scheme, as well as the performance of the students. Based on this analysis, the school can correct the course, plan actions and improve teaching strategies and how the content is given in the classroom for the full development of the students. The Hábile system consists of a set of tests and questionnaires applied to the students of 4th and 9th grade of Elementary School in the subjects of Portuguese, Math and Science. Teachers and directors are also evaluated by Hábile. By creating and providing this new analytical tool, the Grupo Positivo wants to promote a reflection of the entire school regarding its practices and teaching and learning processes, in order to help elevate the quality of education in Brazil.
Positivo Ypy Tablet
The first Brazilian tablet was launched by Positivo Informática in 2011, available in two versions Ypy 7 and Ypy 10. However, even before it was in the market, Ypy had already been used by students from Colégio Positivo in activities in Biology and Physics. With high educational potential, the tablet from Positivo is an important tool to facilitate, stimulate and improve learning of content in the school.
Having the Brazilian consumer in mind, Ypy already comes with more than 50 applications installed in Portuguese and with a keyboard adapted to our language. With two options to connect (Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + 3G), Ypy is ideal to navigate the internet, watch videos, listen to music, store and see pictures, shop, enjoy games, read books, newspapers and magazines, among many other options in information, learning and entertainment.
Small and light, it has two options of LCD screen, 7” and 9.7” sensitive to touch, with high precision and fast response time. It has great performance and it does justice to the name: in the native language Tupi-Guarani, “Ypy” means “first”. The creation of Ypy is another proof of the vocation of Grupo Positivo, which is also searching for new ways to act on the intelligence of people and promote human development.
Barigui Conference Center
Grupo Positivo, in a consortium with J. Malucelli Group, won the BID to administrate, for 25 years, one of the most traditional exhibition spaces in Curitiba located at Barigui Park. The new 7.5 thousand square meter structure was designed with the environment in mind. The consortium is also responsible for the construction of a running and walking track and a passage for people to walk under the avenue Cândido Hartmann that connects both sides of Barigui. They are renovation work on one of the most beloved parks from Curitiba.
New Campus of the Centro Tecnológico da Universidade Positivo
The Universidade Positivo opened a new campus at the industrial neighborhood of Curitiba. The purpose is to meet new market demand – especially from companies installed in the area – by professionals that are highly qualified in areas that are not covered by the traditional undergraduate courses. They are Associate Degree Courses (Tecnólogos), with an average of 2 to 3 years, which cover management areas (commercial, industrial production, human resources, retail and finance), marketing, logistics, industrial maintenance, industrial automation, information technology infrastructure, industrial electronics, management process, system development and analysis, and industrial car production. Once again, the Grupo Positivo invests in cooperation, offering quality education, toward the desires and needs of the industry that look for development based on the good training of the workers.
The corporate communications channel Positive Attitudes was a space created for the collaborators to make suggestions, criticism and to defend the good Professional practices in the companies of the Group. It is a channel to the ones who know that the values of Positive exist to empower the work of everyone and that to live by them makes us better and stronger every day. With the Positive Attitudes channel, the opportunity to be heard lies in the hands of the collaborators. The balloon, which is in the logo of the channel, means a dialogue. The name Positive Attitudes represents the way in which Positivo wants its collaborators to participate in the process.
It is impossible to talk about the Positive Attitudes Channel without mentioning our Code of Conduct. After all, it is by our code that we can base our decisions and determine the matters that we may deal with by means of Positive Attitudes.
This Code was created with the participation of several managers and deep research of the organizational culture of the Group. It translates the result of teamwork with a mission to communicate, standardize and formalize how the practice of the values of Grupo Positivo takes place in all the relations. The guidelines included in this Code reflect the values of Grupo Positivo and the attitudes that are expected on a daily basis.
Medicine of Universidade Positivo receives the top grade
On September 26th 2011, the Medicine course of Universidade Positivo was awarded with the highest grade by our Ministry of Education: 5.0.
Infrastructure, management model, course syllabus, and the integration between health services in the public network and in the partner hospitals were all evaluated.
There were also visits to the Hospital da Cruz Vermelha to certify the institution as a teaching hospital. The interministerial committee formed by the Ministries of Education and Health evaluated the interaction between the hospital, the Medicine School and other health colleges, and the health services.
Colégio Positivo: A Great Teaching Evolution
The year 2012 started with a new teaching mode: Full-time Bilingual. Based on four priorities (culture, language, sports and science), the new teaching mode is for 1st and 2nd year students from Colégio Positivo Júnior, and proposes the natural, spontaneous and contextualized acquisition of English by means of multiple stimuli at a partial immersion environment.
In this mode, in the morning, the basic subjects of the national syllabus are taught in Portuguese, which ensures the teaching of basic literacy in the mother tongue. In the afternoon, artistic and cultural activities, sports, learning workshops and playful moments are all conducted in English by bilingual educators. The Project also has a follow up during the meals and the help and guidance for the review of the content given during the school year and the resolution of doubts from the students. It is an evolution that was approved by parents and students that packed the classrooms.
Special High School
This year, Colégio Positivo launched the “Ensino Médio Especial” (Special High School). Approved in a disputed selection process, students go to the 1st and 2nd year in a full-time basis, with classes from 8:20 A.M. to 6 P.M. in preparation for the Enem exam and the most disputed college entrance examinations of the country. The new proposal, which is being executed first at Colégio Positivo – Ângelo Sampaio, totals 50 weekly classes, which means, in a year, 1,500 hours of class.
The initiative allows the content from the three years to be given in-depth in two years, improving the preparation and avoiding the focus of the study only on the last year of school before the exam.
Special High School students write weekly essays, participate in Enem format tests, they have more classes of English, divided into three levels, they participate in several advance study groups in several subjects and they receive the Ypy tablet from Positivo Informática, among several other advantages from the innovative proposition.
